Lavonia Historic Preservation Commission
The Lavonia Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is dedicated to protecting, preserving, and celebrating the historic character of our community. Established to safeguard Lavonia’s unique charm and architectural heritage, the Commission works to ensure that future growth and development honor the city’s past while embracing its bright future.
What We Do
-
Preserve Our History: The HPC reviews and guides improvements, restorations, and alterations within Lavonia’s designated historic districts.
-
Support Property Owners: We work hand-in-hand with residents, businesses, and developers to provide guidance on historically appropriate renovations, façade improvements, and design elements.
-
Encourage Downtown Vitality: By maintaining our historic assets, the Commission helps foster tourism, business growth, and a strong sense of place in Downtown Lavonia.
-
Celebrate Community Character: We highlight the stories, architecture, and cultural identity that make Lavonia a special place to call home.
Why It Matters
Historic preservation is about more than just saving old buildings. It’s about:
-
Economic Growth: Preserved downtowns attract businesses, residents, and visitors.
-
Community Identity: Lavonia’s history is part of what makes our town unique.
-
Sustainability: Restoring existing buildings is environmentally responsible and cost-effective.
